Too many women experience birth as nothing more than a routine or painful event. In her much-praised film Orgasmic Birth, acclaimed filmmaker Debra Pascali-Bonaro showed that in fact childbirth is a process to be enjoyed and cherished. Now she joins forces with renowned author and activist Elizabeth Davis to offer an enlightening program to help women attain the most empowering and satisfying birth experience possible. While an orgasmic birth can induce feelings of intense, ecstatic pleasure, it is ultimately about taking control of one’s own body and making the best informed decisions to have a safe, memorable, and joyful birth. In October 2010 I hosted Debra Pascali-Bonaro in Amsterdam. She taught an advanced workshop for midwives and doulas, developing skills to work together, she taught a DONA doula training course and signed copies of her new book at The English Bookshop. I am honoured that the cover photo, and one of the stories included in the book are from a birth I attended. The Film and the book are both available to my clients from my lending library- just ask!
I am quoted: "You can't have a child without going on a journey, whatever that journey will be. A woman has to get to know her body, get to know her baby, start to understand her fears, and experience how her hormones change and how what she learns from the people she speaks with along the way affect her ideas about the birth. What she decides at week ten might be the opposite of what she's confident of at week thirty-five. This is a process that puts the woman at the center, and we go on the journey with her. But we don't lead. She does." Jennifer Walker
